About Ms Garlick
I guess since you're here, you're a bit curious of the person behind the resources! Hi, I am Keri Tan Garlick. As you can tell, there is a bit of mixed heritage based on my name alone. My mother is Chinese-Malaysian and my father is pākehā from Fielding. I, however, was born and raised in Chicago. I moved to Auckland in 2009 to study at the University of Auckland. Originally, at eighteen, I intended to become a scientist and planned to complete a BSc and go back to the United States for graduate school. But, I found I loved New Zealand and decided to stay. After completing my MSc, I realised that I hated lab work, but loved being a lab tutor, thus the decision to go into teaching.
My interest in education includes science curriculum development, increasing science education in primary/intermediate schools to better prepare students for secondary and tertiary science, mentoring beginning/trainee teachers, and social equity.
I have one younger brother, who is currently living back in the United States, and a cat named Chickpea. My big interests outside of my job include baking, embroidering, sewing, and social justice. I have included some links to other websites that might be of interest below.
Looking for content videos, this link is the channel for all the videos that I record for my classes.
Before I became a teacher, I wanted to become a scientist. Follow this link for all my post graduate academic writings, including my masters thesis.
My website providing insight into what life is like being a public school teacher in New Zealand and other various social justice opinions. You can find the abridged versions of my posts on Instragram with the same handle.
As we know, teachers don't go into education to become rich. Keri Creates is my side hustle for baking, embroidery, and jewelry orders.
