Learning Tasks
Play a Kahoot to learn about the islands of Tokelau, Tuvalu, Kiribati, or Rotuma and the Tok Pisin language from Papua New Guinea and Pijin language from the Solomon Islands.
Mahi Choice
Compare Languages - Make a Venn diagram to compare the Tok Pisin language from Papua New Guinea and Pijin language from the Solomon Islands. Start by using their Wikipedia pages and then Google to learn more.
Make a Travel Brochure using Canva for some of the least travelled countries in the world to encourage tourists to visit: Tokelau, Tuvalu, Kiribati, or Rotuma. Make sure to include instructions on how to get to these islands and rough idea of costs.

Note to the mentor teachers - we are doing this lesson to help highlight Pacific Islands that often get overlooked in the language weeks. It might be worth sharing the weeks these languages are featured. I'm timing it to be thing week, so many have just gone or will be coming up.
Important to play the Kahoot as this in our hook to get students to want to learn more about these Pacific Islands and their languages.

This weeks extended mentor lesson, the students are exploring the lesser known Pacific islands/Pacific island lanugages. Please write the following on the board.
