Prepping for Pride

Aim to do at least one of the following by the end of this session: 

1. I have created something to decorate for Pride Week. 

2. I have learned something about the LBGTQ+ community/history. 

3. I have grown as a global citizen because I understand more viewpoints. 

Your mentor teacher will direct you to which activities to complete/are apart of your Mahi Choice.

• LGBTQ+ Quizlet

• Pride Word Find - Find all the words and then define them. 

• How to different cultures view gender-diversity? Explore the Map of Gender-Diverse Cultures and create a list to show which cultures share the same gender ideas. Extension question - How has colonization and globalization affected these viewpoints? 

• And the Band Played On - A docudrama film about the mysterious illness that is later identified as HIV/AIDS. This activity is recommended for students that love science or a good drama story. 

• What was the catalyst for the gay rights movement? Read about The Stonewall Riots. This activity is recommended for students that enjoy history and social justice. 

Creative Mahi Choice (to help decorate the classroom)

• Family Rainbow - A chance to reflect on the people that you love. 

• My Heart Map - A chance to reflect and draw your favorite things, people, activities and memories. 

• Mindfulness Colouring - Pick one of the worksheets to colour

• Pixel Colour - Pick one of the pixel art sheets to colour

• Bunt Flags - Colour, cut out and glue to make bunt flags

• Create a Pride Poster on Canva - Here is a folder of some examples to give you ideas. If you do this activity, email it to Ms Garlick (k.garlick@edgewater.school.nz) and if she chooses it to help decorate the school next  year, you get a baking prize!
