Choose a Tongan Phrase and create a poster on a piece of A4 with the Tongan phrase and the translation to decorate the classroom.
Malo e lelei - Hello
Malo e tau lava - Hello (formal)
Mālō ʻEtau Maʻu e Pongipongi ni - Good Morning
ʻOku talitali lelei koe - Welcome
Ofa keke maʻu ha ʻaho lelei - Have a great day
Fēfē hake? - How are you ?
Saipe mālō - Good, thank you
Nofo ā - Goodbye (to someone staying)
Alu ā - Goodbye (to someone going)

Facts about Tonga
Tonga’s national motto is ‘Koe ‘Otua mo Tonga ko hoku tofi’a’ which means ‘God and Tonga are my Heritage’.
Tonga is a constitutional monarchy which means it has both a government and a royal family. It is the only Pacific country with a constitutional monarchy known officially as the Kingdom of Tonga.
The main religion in Tonga is Christianity. This is reflected by the cross and the colour red on the Tongan flag.
Tongans wear a mats around their waists called Ta’ovala as a sign of respect. There are different types of ta’ovala depending on the occasion.
