This lesson took place over three sessions and the latter is when this page was last updated.

Term 1, Week 4 - Tuesday, February 20th, 2024
Learning Intention: Define what is science.
Success Criteria
Start to build our knowledge for J. I can use my evidence to explain the type of investigation I used.
Learning Tasks
Do Now (Day 1): Create a brainstorm on what you think science is OR draw what you think a scientist looks like.
Cut out the following examples into 1 of 5 groups to identify the different ways of investigation that scientists collect information. There should be 3 in each group.
Do Now (Day 2): Take out the investigation example cards you cut in the last lesson and try to find the 3 modelling examples. Modelling = cannot recreate the example, so instead a smaller, simpler or cheaper version is made.
Copy down the notes for the different types of investigation and glue their examples next to them.
Investigate using YouTube Video clips to answer the following question: How many steps does it take to make a layup in basketball? Enter the name of the player and the number of steps in the Google Sheet.
Do Now (Day 3): Last lesson we investigated the number of steps in a lay up. Based on the types of investigation we learned about last week, write in your books which type of investigation skill do you think we used and why?
Investigate using YouTube Video clips to answer the following question: Does a lam dunk require a different number of steps than a layup? Enter the name of the player and the number of steps in the Google Sheet.
Copy down the notes of what we learned from our investigation about lay ups and slam dunks.
In your books, write a question or experiment that would fit the other types of investigation in relation to basketball. If you can't remember what the difference between these types of investigations is, look at your notes.
