Learning Intention: Classify solids into one of four categories.
Success Criteria
I can classify a solid into metals, ionic, covalent network or covalent molecular.
I can recall the particle that makes up each type of solid.
I can recall the bonds that hold together each type of solid.
Learning Tasks
Do Now (Day 1): What is the difference between an atom and an ion?
Vocab Detective: take the 12 everyday household items and classify them into four groups of three to discover the mystery vocab words.
Copy down the notes on how to classify the types of solids and what particles and bonds they have.
Play the Kahoot to practice classifying the types of solids.
Do Now (Day 2): Complete the Weekly Check-In for Week 3. Random question: Are you a dog or cat person?

Task 1, Vocab Detective Items are - tin can, silver ring, aluminum foil, table salt (NaCl), bath salt (MgSO4), baking soda (NaHCO3) acetone (nail polish remover), water, soda scream carbonation bottle (CO2), quartz, plastic, and graphite (for a mechanical pencil). This is to help them learn the four types of solids: metals, ionic, colavent molecular and covalent network.
