Lesson 13
Conversions
Learning Intention: Process how to convert one organic molecule into another.
Success Criteria
7. I can do organic conversions to get from one molecule to a different one.
A = 1 step
M = multiple steps
E = full conversion
Learning Tasks
FYI - The conversion organic questions are also hard to teach and there isn't a set section in the sciPAD that covers it. The best way to learn it is by memorizing the tests and doing practice questions.
Do Now (Day 1) - Draw the following two molecules: propanone and ethyl propanoate.
Ms Garlick will do the 2021 Question 2c as model answer. "Devise a reaction scheme to convert propanone into ethyl propanoate." Remember that for each step there needs to be the reagents and conditions, plus structural formula for the organic product after each step.
Mahi Choice - pick from the following options something to work on based on where you are in your learning of reaction schemes/conversions.
Memorize the conversion reactions with Quizlet or using the No Brain Too Small Conversion Flash Cards
