Lesson 5
Geometric Isomers
Learning Intention: Define what are geometric and how they are made/used in reactions.
Success Criteria
Not required at Level 3 to explain the requirements to make geometric isomers might come up in a isomer question. Markovnikov's Rule and Saytiff's Rule might come up in a flow chart style question.
So material in today's lesson helps build knowledge to tackle.
3. I can identify structural isomers from a molecular formula from information on the properties of the molecule.
6. I can fill in an organic flow chart.
Learning Tasks
Do Now (Day 1): Complete the Week 2 Check-In. Random question: Are you a hugger?
Work on SciPad page 126/14 - Geometric Isomers as your pre-learning.
Copy down Ms Garlick's notes on geometric isomers.
Do Now (Day 2): Using the notes from the SciPad, name the three molecules that Ms Garlick wrote in the notes from last lesson.
Work on SciPad pages 129-130/17-18 and 131-132/19-20 - Markovnikov's Rule and Saytzeff's Rule as your pre-learning.
Copy down Ms Garlick's notes on Markovnikov's Rule and Saytzeff's Rule.
Homework
SciPad pages 126, 129-130, 131-132/14, 17-18, 19-20
This lesson took place on Monday, July 29th, 2024 and Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, Term 3 Week 2. The latter is when this page was last updated.
Teacher Notes
Provide the flow chart at this point so students can use it to write summary notes on it as we're learning.
