This lesson took place over three sessions and the latter is when this page was last updated.
Term 1, Week 3 - Monday, February 12th, 2024
Term 1, Week 3 - Tuesday, February 13th, 2024
Term 1, Week 3 - Friday, February 16th, 2024
Learning Intention: Classify reactions as oxidation or reduction.
Success Criteria
I can define oxidation and reduction with reference to specific gain/lost in electrons.
I can write half redox equations.
I can write full redox equations.
Learning Tasks
Do Now (Day 1): Complete the Weekly Check-In for Week 3. Random question for this week is: Are you a dog or cat person?
Copy down the notes to refresh redox.
Mahi Choice: Work on Pathway to Your Career Worksheet or Play L2 Redox Revision Gimkit.
Do Now (Day 2): Split the following unbalanced equation into its oxidation and reduction halves, identify each and then balance them. Al + Cu2+ --> Al3+ + Cu (Answer)
For each of the following unbalanced equations, split it into its oxidation and reduction halves, identify each and then balance them.
FeCl2 --> Fe + Cl2
Cu + Br2 --> CuBr2
AlF3 --> Al3+ + F-
Pb + Cl2 --> PbCl2
Ag + Cu2+ --> Ag+ + Cu
Zn2+ + Pb --> Zn + Pb2+
Al3+ + Mg --> Mg2++ Al
Cu + Fe2+ --> Fe + Cu2+
Level Up - Start on the level based on your understanding and move up as you build your confidence.
