Lesson 13b
Equation and Combustion Study Period
This week (week 9), I will give you two study periods so you can process the material that we covered last week on equations and combustion reactions. The two study periods will be on Wednesday, June 30th, 2021 and Thursday, July 1st, 2021.
First, decide if you want to work on equation practice or combustion theory. Then, reflect where you feel you are in the Selwise process for that material. You will be advised of differentiated tasks based on where and what you want to cover.
Please note, I will be away on Wednesday, but the reliever will have the Displace Reaction Equations Worksheet. They have been instructed to pass it out and you need to glue it into your books.
Specific Work Assigned as Homework
Education Perfect Tasks
3. Writing Chemical Equations: Word Equations
4. Writing Chemical Equations: Symbol Equations
If you want to practice the combustion theory, here are the recommended tasks.
Hāngore (Wipe Out)
SciPad page 228 ("Fuels")
SciPad page 229 ("Combustion")
Hā (Stand)
SciPad page 235 ("Complete and Incomplete Combustion Word Equations")
ESA page 76 Questions ("Then and now")
Hāpai (Surf)
ESA page 79 Questions ("Fossil Fuels")
Hāro (Soar)
SciPad page 234 ("The Dangers of Incomplete Combustion")
ESA page 82 ("Hydrocarbons")
If you want to practice equations, here are the recommended tasks.
Hāngore (Wipe Out)
Using the list of hydrocarbons from the Mahia/Do Now, write the word equations for the complete combustion of each of those fuels in your notebook.
Displacement Reaction Equations Worksheet – Wipe Out Section on using the Activity Series.
Hā (Stand)
Go to SciPad page 55 and complete the word equations for the metal combustion.
SciPad page 235 ("Complete and Incomplete Word Equations")
Displacement Reaction Equations Worksheet – Stand Section on writing word equations.
Hāpai (Surf)
Using the list of the hydrocarbons from the Mahia/Do Now, write the balanced symbolic equations for the complete combustion of each of those fuels in in your notebook.
Displacement Equation Worksheet – Surf Section on writing the symbolic equations.
Hāro (Soar)
Go to SciPad page 55, complete the word equations for the metal combustion. Then translate those word equations into a balanced symbolic equations in your notebook.
Displacement Worksheet – Complete the Surf section first and then the Soar by balancing the symbolic equations.
