Lesson 2
Acids, Bases and Buffers
Learning Intention: Define what is an acid, base, and buffer.
Success Criteria
Success criteria is going to be referencing the AS 91389 Assessment Checklist.
A1. Identifying and describing chemical processes in ocean acidification.
A2. Providing the equations in ocean acidification.
M2. Explaining buffers.
Learning Tasks
Do Now: Week 1 Check-In. Random question: What is one highlight from your holiday?
Research what classifies something as an acid? A base?
Put away your devices and now knowing what acids and bases are, how would you rank the followings acids: HCl, H2SO4, and CH3COOH.
Tinker with some acids and bases using UI, litmus paper, and carbonate on a spotting tile.
Ms Garlick will show you how to do the pop test and you'll test out different acids with magnesium.
Copy down the notes Ms Garlick makes on acids, bases, and buffers and how that relates to the ocean acidification equation.
Homework
Work on Ocean Acidification Internal (Starting with the 'Just the Achieved' Google Doc to ensure you get the 7 credits.)
