Teacher Notes
Task 2 and 3 as very personally tied to me since I am telling my own family's story. Feel free to add your story instead or swap out for a different activity. The main reason why I share the journey is because it's parallels a lot of students (immigration) and because my family went from poor in a village with no education to now being financially stable in the US/NZ. I'm mindful that it's a pretty unique combination from my experience and the students that are being taught.
Task 4 and making that timeline is really good for the students at Edgewater College since many come from an immigrant background. I'm not sure if it would work as effectively for a higher decile school where more students may come from a longer history of financial generational wealth and thus might not be aware of the journey. In fact, this whole lesson could be swapped out. I just find that with the kids that I am teaching, this reflection of progress is really important to understand the importance of managing finances well and how to progress.
If students finish early, I have a folder with extra resources.
If there is time, there is an About Me Kahoot.
